With the release of the new Barbie, move everyone has gone Barbie mad, me included! So, with the kid’s summer holidays here, I wanted to come up with something we could do together as a family, and that we could give out as lovely gifts to friends to help keep their little ones entertained too. Needless to say, these have been a huge hit. Especially as the kids can be creative and then have a sugary treat to enjoy afterwards!

These are also great if you fancy a nostalgic girls’ night. Invites some of you best gal pals round, add a few pink bubbles to the evening, then go back to your childhood, and create the Barbie collection that you had or you always wanted.

Why I selected these Cookie cutters

I chose the Barbie logo cutter and Barbie head because the theme is Barbie after all. The high heel and flip flop cookie cutters are because if you have seen the movie, you will know Barbie loves her heels, but by the end of the movie she has loves her flat feet and sandals. There are two dress options as Barbie loves her cloths. And finally, the flamingo, well there are flamingos in Barbieland after all and I just love a pink flamingo.

The tools I used

Blue food safe silicone mat, barbie cookie cutters, white fondant icing, vanilla sugar cookies, ediable glue and brush.

How to make paint your own Barbie cookies

Bake and cool your cookies

Use my How to Make No Chill and No Spread Sugar Cookies recipe to make your cookies. Cut out your cookies, if you are going to make all of the cookies I made, or you want to make a couple of sets, you will need to double the recipe. Bake and fully cool your cookies ready for decorating.

Prep your surface

Lay out your non slip mat on a flat surface and dust this with corn starch so your fondant icing does not stick to it.

Roll out your icing

Place your fondant on to your dusted matt and roll this out to about 2mm thick.

Cut out your shapes – But not your Barbie logo one yet.

Place your cookie cutters on the fondant and press these down, give them a little wiggle to try and give a nice even cut. Note that plastic cutters do not cut quite as clean as metal ones, but you can neaten these up with a craft knife. If you do not get all of your shapes cut in one go, repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have fondant tops for all your cookies. Jump to step 8 For the logo cookie.

Glue cookies

Use your edible glue and brush to paint the glue onto your cookies, you do not need a lot of glue as you do not want your cookies to be too wet, you just need enough for the fondant to stick. Make sure you paint your glue right to the edges. You can add glue to about three or four of your cookies at a time.

Stick your fondant on to your cookies

Use your angled spatula to help you lift the fondant shapes from your silicone mat without distorting the shape and place the fondant on to your cookies. If you find your fondant is a bit smaller than the cookie, that’s fine just use your fingertips to gently massage the icing out to the edges of your cookies.

Let them dry

Place your glued cookies onto a cooling rack and leave these to dry for about 30 minutes, then place these in an air tight container to store.

Barbie logo De-bosser

Follow steps 1-3 first, then rub your de-bosser with corn starch and press this into your fondant, you want this to make a nice clear indentation, but be careful not to press this straight through to your mat. Gently remove your de-bosser from the fondant and set aside.

Cut the Barbie logo

Place your Barbie cutter around your debossed logo and press this down, give it a little wiggle to try and get a nice clean cut, then go back to step 5 and glue your logo onto the cookie.

Decorate your cookies

All that’s left to do now is decorate your cookies. Just use edible pens or paints, sprinkles, basically you can use anything edible to create your dream Barbie cookies collection. If you post picture of your cookies, please tag #Partypartydisco #imadethiswithPPD, I would love to see your wonderful creations!

Or package your cookies to gift them

If you are gifting your cookies, you can pop these in a nice box, I lined my boxes with pink shredded paper and then added some pink and white curling ribbon to secure the box and for presentation. Gift with a set of edible pens so the lucky person can get straight to decorating!

Tips

Store these in an air tight container. You can also use a food safe silica gel packs to pop in the container with the cookies, as these will draw out any moisture and stop them from going soft.

I find plastic cutters do not cut quite as sharply as the metal ones, so give these a little wiggle in the fondant as you press down to try and get a sharper cut. You can also use a craft knife to trim off any excess before you remove these from your mat to put on your cookies.

Final word

I loved making these cookies, we had such a fun time doing these together and they were a great activity to keep the kids entertained afterwards too. These simple gifts have been such a hit with the adults and kids. I think any Barbie fan will just love these, why not give them a go and see what people say, at the very least I am sure they will say they are delicious and fun.

Happy baking, creating and making, I look forward to seeing some of your designs. If you post these on social media, please tag Party, Party, Disco as I love to see what you have created.
