What you will need to make chocolate covered strawberries

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Good quality white chocolate
  • Orange food colouring – I used Colour Mill Peach. You can use whatever brand you like, but make sure that the colour you choose is either oil based or a powder colouring. Gel colour does not work with chocolate.
  • Tooth picks
  • Parchment
  • Heat proof cup / bowl
  • Spatula

How to Decorate Strawberries for Easter – Your 12 step guide

Step 1 – Clean your strawberries

Damp a piece of paper towel roll and gently wipe over your strawberries, to remove any dirt, but you don’t want to soak them because you don’t want them to absorb too much moisture.

Step 2 – Prepare your strawberries for dipping

Place a toothpick in the centre of the green of each of your strawberries as this will help you to lift your strawberries in and out of the chocolate when you are dipping.

Step 3 – Prepare your chocolate

Break up your chocolate and put it in a heat proof bowl, then heat it in the microwave in 10 seconds bursts, you work in short burst because you don’t want to burn your chocolate. Make sure you give the chocolate a stir as you go after every 10 second as this will make sure the chocolate heats evenly.

Step 4 – Colour your chocolate

Once your chocolate has melted add your oil based or powder food colouring and mix this in to get your desired colour. Remember always start with less colour and increase the colour rather than go in with too much to start with.

Step 5 – Line baking sheet

Cut a piece of grease proof / parchment paper and lay this on a baking sheet so it’s ready to place your strawberries on once they have been dipped.

Step 6 – Prepare for dipping

Pick up your strawberries gently lifting the green up around the toothpick so they are ready for dipping and dip these into your melted chocolate

Step 7 – Dip your strawberries

Dip your strawberries into the melted chocolate, giving them a little swirl to make sure they are fully covered then carefully lift it out. Hold the covered strawberries above the melted chocolate and let the excess drip off, you can give this a little shake, if needed and then place on your parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 9 – Re-heat chocolate

Re-melt your chocolate and then repeat step 7 to give your strawberries a double dip.
